Getting Meta working is really hard.
But not because of the ad account setup. That part is actually really easy.
The problem is that the Meta Ads Manager platform is essentially a buckaroo of a piece of software. Features have been layered on top over time, and as a result, maybe 80%+ of it we never use. It also changes all the time.
If you’re just getting started with ads, this becomes a problem. Because if you aren’t cracking Meta Ads, you have to ask yourself:
Is it my product?
Is it the channel as a whole?
Is it our creative?
Is it our messaging?
Is it how we’re running these ads?
This five-point checklist is what you’re typically working your way through when diagnosing the early stages.
I’ve helped many brands go from 0 to 1. I also worked out recently that when we’ve taken on totally ‘at zero’ clients, our success rate is about 33% — which is many multiples higher than the pre-seed success rate of under 2%.
The vast majority of the work you should be doing is focused on answering questions 3 and 4 on that list: Creative & Messaging.
Number 5 is not where you’ll find answers.
